Sentimental Table Tops

Behind the sofa I have a full table.  On the left, my children as children, and their baby shoes. On the right, a memorial to a precious friend who recently passed away. In the center, my 5 heart-shaped pieces of coral--one for each grandchild. The birdhouse on the floor was painted by my granddaughter.

A close up on the childhood picture and the three pairs of baby shoes. I have saved these shoes for many years and they are becoming fragile now. Still one of my most cherished possessions.

The Fall collage on the dining table. The table is large enough to seat us all for family dinner, and it's made from reclaimed wood. The candles smell like cinnamon and Autumn.

Family pictures on the buffet. There is never enough room for family pictures. I squeeze a bit of space for them here and there. Through the window? The screen porch by the barn.

A store-bought nest with three eggs. An abandoned nest found in the yard, with five tiny spotted eggs. A small dish of lavender from my garden. All symbolic and meaningful to me.

Husband's side table where he strums his new ukulele from Maui, next to a lamp filled with river rocks, and my grandson's deer skull, and postcards from Rome, and branches from the yard.

On my copper side table: my phone, my teapot set from the Asheville Biltmore House, given my by my lovely sis-in-law, my glasses in a mug, a mother's day gift from my daughter, a book--Hunger Games--that my grandson asked me to read, and which I am enjoying, and a glass of pink sand from Bermuda, a gift from our travelling buddies, and a turtle coaster picked up from a restaurant in Grand Cayman.

Quite a hodge-podge on my table tops. Do you, like me, sprinkle your table tops with inexpensive,
but sentimental and symbolic,  treasures? I didn't realize how much I do this till I took the pictures today. I somehow doubt that I am the only one...

  1. It is so wonderful to see more of your home!! I've often felt envious of your farm while I was reading about your family dinners. Thanks for sharing more of yourself and your ranch.

I know I would love it even more in person.

  3. These are your treasures and they show love in the ways you displayed them. Can't help but feel at home the moment you walk through the door. Even driving up to your farm invites you in.
